History Overview:- The Civil Services Examination (CSE) is a nationwide competitive examination in India conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to various Civil Services of the Government of India, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and Indian Foreign Service (IFS), among others.

The CSE is conducted in three stages:

Preliminary Examination (Prelims): The Prelims is a screening test, and candidates who qualify it are eligible to appear for the Main Examination.

Main Examination: The Main Examination consists of nine papers, including two qualifying papers and seven papers for ranking.

Personality Test (Interview): Candidates who clear the Main Examination are called for a Personality Test or Interview, which is the final stage of the examination.

The eligibility criteria for appearing in the CSE include a minimum age of 21 years and a minimum educational qualification of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The examination is conducted in English and Hindi and is considered one of the toughest competitive exams in India.

The Civil Services Examination is conducted once a year, and the notification is usually released in February/March.
